Tertipu $1.50

smile_sad

I know its a small sum... I'm just disappointed.
Feel like the stupidest person ever.

It was my first time taking the boat ride to Kg Ayer alone and to be honest, I was a little nervous about it. I had no idea how the water-taxi "system" works, I mean like... going to the kampongs is easy, but.. how, when I want to get back to town?

Izza told me that its $1 for a round trip.

The first man whom I saw in the jetty area told me it depends.

The boatman... told me it was $1 for a one-way trip.

When I arrived my destination, I only had $10 and $2 (SGD) notes in my wallet and so, I gave him my $10 and he said he got no change. Then I gave him my SGD2 and told him that I will need a ride back to the port and asked him to meet me one hour later. I trusted him.

Then, the nice lady whom I talked to say it's always $0.50 for a trip and said, "Tamak kali orang atu..."

And so I walked back to the place that the boatman was supposed to pick me up, thinking that I'm going to ask him to give me my $1

... I waited.. and waited... and waited...

I remembered it was a yellow boat, and the boatman was wearing navy blue with shades. Damn! 8 out of 10 boats are yellow! And I couldn't even remember the man's face. I didn't even look at the boat name or whatever.

Haih!

I was telling myself, just wait for another 5 minutes, maybe he will appear. But then, wah-lao-eh... my car parked there bai-bai tak-koyok, I mean... the charges for the parking space is $0.50 every 30 minutes man. Time is MONEY!!!

Really cannot tahan anymore and just hail the taxi... and wasted my $1.50.
Sigh...

Really, can only blame myself for being stupid to trust people nia...

Tips for first-timer who want to go to Kg Ayer:
1. Its $0.50 per trip
2. Get some small change ready
3. Remember the boat's name
4. Try to dress up less tourist-y. LOL.

Anyway, I feel much better now lah.
Wah.... justnow I really felt like a sucker.

Now I'm just going to tell myself maybe that $1.50 can do him some good or he needs money or whatever lah. Take it as I just donated it or what lah.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, that was yesterday. Izza and I

I'm a very happy person today :D
2 mouths are definitely better than one because we'd completed 2 houses in just one hour! Woohooo!!!!!

Team Izza + Nonnie rocks. LOL.

The display light of my camera seems like is not going to light on anymore.. And all the pictures you're seeing now, are all taken without looking at the LCD or viewfinder. Steady!

29/03/2009

I was supposed to wake up at 7.30am but the super silly + careless me forgot to set the alarm last night. And guess what, I woke up at 9.15am instead... by Bobby's text sent in to ask whether I was done with my work and ready for some hot... and steamy...... dim sum?

(You all ah... think of something else already is it when I said hot and steamy?)

Came back to Seria at around 2pm, had my brunch and had to rush out again to run some errands. Met my super-long-time-no-see "gang" and had my usual butter toast + half boiled egg in Universal. I super hate they closing time lor. Sigh... Every time chat till happy happy then they pull the gate liao. Damn potong-steam. And so, we went to OGDC's park and sat on the "chess-stairs" and continued chit-chatting.

Notice something?

No?

I'm blogging about stupid silly daily happenings and my blog has no ... "weight" or "substance" anymore! I'm super malas to take out my camera to snap photos nowadays because... I hate embarrassing myself in the public with my crappy camera.. which I have to tap it for minutes to get the display on. And also.. the screw is loose and one piece of the "besi" keeps falling out. Super malu can die.

Anyhoos,
I logged in my Facebook justnow and squeaked a little because... 9 out of 10 status updates I saw was...

"Don't wanna go to school tmr!"

"LP not done yet!"

"Not looking forward for school tomorrow"

"Oh no! Tomorrow is Monday already?"

Heh. Am I the only one who is looking forward for school tomorrow? Yes, if only I'm that semangat 15 years ago and may be.. just may be... I already a super scientist with frizzy hairs and big round glasses and bad breathe... mixing some love potion to make men fall in love with me. Hahahhaha. Just kidding. Okay, I get it, not funny.

Any... Anyhoos....

Am I the only one who is hating channel 333... yes, the stupid Hua Hee Dai! The super annoying 24/7 Hokkien channel with super loooooooooooooooooooog with toilet roll Hokkien series having villians who will never die, and the main characters super ill-fated always cannot be with the one he/she loves because:

- the lover is the daughter/son of the father's rival
- the lover already have someone and they're together because he/she wanna repay kindness
- when have courage to express feelings ah.. then another yong-soi someone will pop out and ngam-ngam accidentally hug/kiss/hold/touch the lover.
- got cancer and die. Then hor, the script-writer will arrange the character who died another identity and appear in the series again.

It's like a never-ending vicious cycle!

I super hate that channel. Astro ruins my life for introducing that because nowadays I have to fight with my parents for switching channels.

But, I always kalah one.

Because, there's only 3 people in my family.

Mother and Father (2 votes) > Nonnie (1 vote) = Astro controller in my mum's hand.

Now, that's when I really wish I have a brother or sister...
>.<

Any, anyhoo... again...

(Sounds like I'm singing Baa Baa Black Sheep, used to sing... "ba ba bek shee any any wu" when I was 5 years old)

I wanna get some rest and see TV liao.
Bye.

A little smile will do

Today is a very rewarding day not because I had completed my assignment a week earlier before the due date (read: kiasu-ism), but because I'd met so many nice people out there and get a chance to have a small peek at their lives and tons of smiles in return.

Every time when I feel like whining "Life's unfair", God always has His way to prove to me that... 人间有情.

And today, I guess God rewarded me for completing my assignment earlier and for being hardworking... or, for being nice to fat guy lately. Hhahahahahaa.

Malu to say, but... I received a pack of local rice today from one of the respondent I interviewed today.

*cue Awwwwwwwww*

P1210872

I was pretty sakai when I saw them drying padi outside their house. After several conversation, they asked if I pandai eat beras Brunei and took out a pack and gave it to me. I went speechless for a moment.

It was my last house in that area and also, my first time interviewing a 6 years old. To be honest, apart from those houses who pretended that no one's at home (but with the TV/ Radio playing), the households of those which I interviewed successfully were all super dooper nice and friendly to me.

P1210874

Hope such luck will continue till mid April!

I love living in BRUNEI!

I love this "Doraemon" Mamee-look-alike keropok

P1210870

Found it in Miri Boulevard and only realized its actually called the "LeeFah Noodles".

In my opinion... this is way better than Mamee but unfortunately, no one in the car shared the same feeling and couldn't understand why I love it so much.

One word, Nostalgia.

Used to buy it from the school canteen or those kedai runcit for 10cents only.

Next, I'm looking for the $0.30 wafer icecream!!!

.... if you know what am I talking about lah.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I'm so bloody mad at my laptop now, yet I have to pretend I wanna sayang it and give it lots of love so it'll function normally. Stupid BLUESCREEN! What the heck is wrong man? I have 2 assignments due soon and I have no extra time to play with you okay!

Anyway, I'm on "safe mode" now.

Sigh...

I guess I can't go back to Seria this week...

Double sigh...

I miss having hassle-free days...

Triple sigh....

I have nothing to blog...

Now, you sigh. HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA.

You see, my camera is not working (well), the display is on/off. My laptop also don't know why always give me problem.. Maybe I should switch to Mac... See, everything needs money.

Bah, gotta go google stuffs for my assignment and stalk, I mean go update on other people's life. Now you know how pathetic I am. Lalalalallaalalaa.

Well, at least I have something that would cheer me up a little later.
But, that one also is money-buy one. Hehehe.

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Hmm...

My plans of being a typical blogger, taking lots and lots of pictures for the food I ate, the road, and whatever else.. not forgetting camwhoring with Soly failed badly today.

As usual, my camera's display light was being really naughty hiding in the dark and.. I kind of lose the motivation to blog my daily life nowadays.. unless there's something really funny or extremely frustrating.

Yeap, went to Miri, met up with Luuee, shopped here and there but ended up with zero shoes/bags/bajus... which kind of feel really depressing because I thought I'll meet my new love and be envied. The portion served in Pizza Hut was really really disappointing... macam kid's meal. Anyway, speaking of kid's meal... (as always) they- Pizza Hut disallowed me ordering kid's meal. Seriously, what's wrong with ordering kid's meal???

(Should have lied and said it's for my niece or nephew who is coming later or something like that...)

Can't I have a glass of Iced Milo, pasta with the right portion to curb my never-ending-feel-like-having-more-food appetite (so that I can have more room for other junk food) and lastly... ICE CREAM!!!!

Hummmmmpppphhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I love ordering Kid's Meal bah! Why cannot why cannot why cannot?!

Ish!

Anyway, the RTB Media Survey will be starting tomorrow. Crossing my fingers now praying that I will have a smooth day. Two assignments due soon too. And heck, even though I constantly complain about my busy life... I'm secretly enjoying it!!

I guess, I'm a Busy-Junkie.

Ciao. Gotta pack soon.

It's better to give than to take

plaLying on the chair while waiting for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th cycle of the Plateletpheresis in the Oncology department, I certainly felt blessed that I'm a healthy person who is fit enough to be an Apheresis Donor.

It was my... third time going through the same process in the same hospital. I remembered once an auntie told my mum this after my first platelets donation, "Your daughter very good oh, donate the blood (there's a lot of people out there who don't know the difference the between donating blood and platelets) . Abuthen har... so scary one, seems like your daughter's blood group very soi (bad), so many people with that blood type got cancer one!"

Seriously, sometimes I feel like strangling those aunties... but, they can be quite cute because of their bluntness.

Well, at least for now I'm aware of my blood type and... I sort of compiled a list of names of people (I know) who has the same blood type as me. You know, just in case if anything, *touchwood* happens...

I don't know why some people are so afraid of syringe........ and dentist... and cockroach ...and harmless bugs....

(Crap! I think I'm the odd one out here or.. abnormal for being "The Brave One".... No wonder Bobby always complained that I'm not feminine/gentle enough and in fact, I'm the one protecting him from spiders. Sigh, now everyone knows who's the MAN in our relationship)

I often found myself looking the whole injecting process. I also like visiting the dentist (because I know I have a lot to "fix")... it's just that getting a dental appointment in the Seria clinic is not as easy as writing 一二三.

Oh by the way.. when the nurse pump air to the blood pressure measuring thingie and asked me to squeeze my fist hard, she gave out a surprising "WOWWWW" when looking at my veins.

I was like, "Wow good, or wow bad?"

"Good! Its beautiful."

LOL! The first time I received compliment for my blood veins. HAHAHHAHAA. Once the other syringe connected to the machine was inserted in, my blood gushed out and once again, the nurse said... "Beautiful!". I guess she sees the whole process as ART.

Knock Knock

This,

P1210857

IS (note the present tense) what  I'm up to lately and also for the following month.

P1210859

Met quite a number of "cool" people and some *puke* red-hot one... Okay, inside joke that no one knows...

Anyhoos, expect us come knocking your door anytime soon. LOL. Just please, don't slam the door on me or call the police.

Can you guess?

Ever since I'd blogged about the "KB Slang" last December, a lot of my friends (who speaks the unique language) contributed more "words" and asked me to put it up too.

Here's some of them.

  1. "Heng1" or "Hen2" - the 1 and 2 is the pinyin tone or whatever you call it
  2. "Oh-li-tu"
  3. "For" & "Piang"
  4. "Ching"
  5. "Mook"
  6. "Kim"
  7. "Miek"
  8. "Bian-Yi"
  9. "Lao"
  10. "Lui"

Have some wild guesses peeps on what do those words mean. Please my dear Belait-ians, I know you pan-nai pandai, but let the others guess first ya.

Kuai~

If you're too lazy to guess all, well.. maybe you just pick one or two that you feel confident with and try.

p/s: I've been extremely busy... or my bloginspiration is all lost and I have nothing to blog. Bugged Bobby to guest-blog for me but he refused.

Arrgghhhhh.

The Snips and Snaps of Week 11, 2009

Sunday, 8th March 2009.

My boo came down to Seria and surprised me with a tub of chicken porridge (with gingers size of a potato wedges and ONE WHOLE UNCUT CHICKEN THIGH! Such a lazy bum).

1

In return, I gave him the packet of kolo mee-pok which my mum tapao-ed for me. LOL.

Went to SupaSave to shop ingredients for lunch. He volunteered to cook the main course and I'll be preparing the dessert. Guess what's for lunch.

Simple dessert ..
2

The bananas looked so fresh and beautiful and its hard to resist not to buy them. Eating fruits on its own can be a little bland so just add some extras to make it work.

Diced and sliced the oranges and bananas. Leave some to blend with milk or yogurt and poured it into the bowl and chill. If only I have some almond flakes and dried berries to mix with it.

3

Still wondering what's the main course for the day?
Bacon-wrapped-asparagus and mashed potatoes.

.... which Bobby spent like 30 minutes to prepare the ingredients (which is just boiling the potatoes and cutting the asparagus) and another 30 minutes to wrap them...

4

Know why....?

 5

Because the lazy bum is so greedy that he's trying to fit everything into one big chunk. I told him he could have just use 1/2 of the bacon stripe and wrap 2 asparagus but not.. he used up the whole long bacon stripe and fit in like.. 5 sticks of asparagus in it!

I called him lazy and he defended by saying he preferred bigger portion having everything in his mouth. Greedy pig.

Since he was busy wrapping, I ended up peeling the potatoes and mashing it. All he did was add in a dash of milk, salt, butter, pepper and some basil leaves. Ya, its supposed to be "lunch prepared by Bobby".

6

Oh by the way, I had to google up the recipe for the mashed potatoes because my dear young master was clueless about it.

Him: Bi, I'm going to cook you mashed potatoes ya....
Me: Okay!
Him: ....... but, do you know the recipe?
Me: -_______-"

7

Anyhooooos, the end result was great~!!!

8-pola

The bacon roasted just nice and juicy and the mashed potatoes tasted really good.

I gave him face and praised him lah...

Me: This is really good baby. Thank you!
Him: Don't thank me, thank my sifu.
Me: Huh?
Him: Jamie Oliver.

... really wanna long-piak.

Next, we're going to try cooking some traditional Chinese dish.
Don't expect complicated stuffs like buttermilk chicken or nestum prawn lah.

A really selfish and lazy driver conveniently parked his/her car near to the SHBIE side entrance blocking Norol's car... without leaving any contacts behind.

9

It was 9+ in the morning and... there were still some parking spaces further down the road!!! I really felt like swearing at this irresponsible bugger!

THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU OKAY! AT LEAST LEAVE A NOTE ON YOUR WINDSCREEN SO THAT PEOPLE CAN CONTACT YOU AND GET YOUR STUPID CAR PARK SOMEWHERE ELSE!

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT WHAT IF THE DRIVER/OWNER OF THE CAR YOU BLOCKED HAVE SOMETHING URGENT TO ATTEND TO? AND JUST BECAUSE YOU WASTED/DELAYED HER TIME, YOU MIGHT ACTUALLY CAUSE AN ETERNAL REGRET! YOU DON'T FEEL GUILTY ONE AH? WHERE'S YOUR BLOODY CONSCIENCE?

Our class is from 8 - 9am and after class, Norol needed to send her mother to the hospital and see what this stupid moron did! Imagine all the hassle Norol went through because of this selfish bugger! Making numerous phone calls to get help from the siblings, informed and comforted her mother that she'll be late and asked her not to worry because she's rushing over now and so on.

And guess what. When Norol was back at 12+ pm,
the bloody car WAS STILL THERE!!!!

Good that the cars parked beside her were already gone so she could reversed and turned to the side to get her car out of the way.

Hey you BS-Hyundai-driver, please spare some thoughts for others okay. Don't learn your lesson the hard way by having some other people vandalising your car or do the same thing to you when you're in a hurry.

Marah ah you know!

And.. I hate those jaywalkers! Oh come on, just because you're wearing a tight dress doesn't mean you own the road and everyone will slow down and look at your buttocks okay.

Japanese Week in UBD.

Learned how to fold a samurai helmet and heart, and ate 3 pieces of sushis for free.

Went to Bobby's house to pick up some LEGO figure for the class on Saturday. And ended up playing games of Bobby's super old NINTENDO!!!

11

And.. its still working!
We hap-chok and beaten up the big boss and finished the combat something something game.

Saturday, 14 March 2009

Today's lesson is about creating an e-book. We're asked to bring along a box, white papers, table lamps and some toy figures for macro-shooting.

 12

I brought some LEGO pirates, Soly brought dinosaurs and Norol brought her porcelain Vietnamese patungs. Can you guess the synopsis of our story?

Photographers rajin at work.

I have biceps now!

Semester break is over....
*bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa*

I'd been sleeping at 2.30am and waking up (naturally, ahhhh~ bliss) at 10 ~ 11am for the past week. And now... I'm packing for BSB, dragging my lazy footsteps to the hostel carrying my bags like kuli!

You guys have no idea how much I dreaded for this "pindah-rumah" process okay.

1

It takes around 5 ~ 10 minutes walking from the parking lot to my hostel block and normally, I had to make 2 trips because of the "excess baggage". I've seen some other girls using luggage bag with wheels so that they can walk gracefully like stewardess without making themselves sweat like a red-butt baboon... which I normally think I look like that walking helter-skelter trying my best to avoid any UV rays!

Ppppfffffftttttttttt!

Another 3 more months to go.

Bah, I have to move my stuffs into the car while warming it (car) up.
See ya later alligators.

Spot me walking around in the Mall and the campus.

I just did a "Spidey"

So smart.

Went to pick up my car and forgot to bring the keys with me.
The stupider thing was... my window was left widely open.

Hence, I climbed in my house from the window.

Yay.

Bags! from this '_' to this >o<

"Bi bi bi! Look look look! Pretty or not? So nice right? Sigh.. If only yadda yadda yadda yadda"

Constantly shaking Bobby asking him to look at my screen showing him LV Mahina/ Hermes Birkin/ Chanel 2.55 or while window-shopping at those boutiques selling grade AAAA bags. Of course, those bags with a "grade" are purely used as a teaching aid. I would rather save up to that certain amount and buy an authentic one instead of feeling 心虚 when using it.

Lucky for me having a really patient baby boo who will layan me and gives comment all the time.

But sometimes he'll crinkle his brows and asked...

"What happened to the "King" who said.. "I don't understand why some people would wanna spend thousand of dollars on a bag. Could have use that money more efficiently with 意义 (significance)".... smile_omg"

Oops.

Shoot.

Couldn't help but the only word that popped up above my head was... "PWNED!"

Crap. Did he just think that I'm some materialistic b* who might probably tipu all his hard-earned-got-blood-got-sweat money, buy all those bags then dump him when he's broke?

.... wait a minute.

HAHAHHAHAHAAA.
Me think too much.
He no have so much moo-lah for me to tipu.
HAHHAHAHHAHAHHAA.
If wanna dump, years ago when he was a poor student eating Tiger biscuits and Milo for 3 meals already dump lah. Wait till now meh?

Honestly, I can't really recall when did the transition take place?
I mean, the transition of "King who thinks it's a waste of money buying a bag for thousands of dollars, ITS JUST A BAG!!!" to the "King who drools all over her keyboard looking at those pretty bags, ITS NOT "JUST A BAG!!!" *roll eyes*.

Is it because of those fashion magazines / blogs / whatever media hypnotizing me?

Or the peoples I saw carrying those bags, thinking... "I earn more than her leh. If she can afford it, why can't I? If like then go buy lah Nonnie King, think think think.. think till langsat also ripe liao you also won't buy one lah cos you so karit" - having the 人有,我也要有 syndrome.

Or, is it because I think I deserve it?
Work till so hard, must pamper sendiri one mah. I use my own money buy one leh, so why not?

*shrugs*

I guess, being a brand-whore is not a sin.
(Yes YC, I copy from you one.)

Not like I'm crazy till no money also die-die want to buy.
Or desperate till must-have-it-because-others-have-it.
反正, 有也好, 没有也罢~

For now, I'll just take my sweet time window-screen-shopping admiring those lovely bags from 50cm away.

An inexpensive way to organize your bags

I'm sure a lot of you ladies have the very same problem.
Too many bags! But never enough.
*chuckles*

While starring at my bags lying on the floor, I came up with an idea on how to organize them. Fast, inexpensive and no prior knowledge on sewing or whatsoever needed.

You need:

A belt.

1

And some S-hooks.

2

The belt which I'm using came free with a pant. I chose it because it already has big hoops so it will be more convenient for me to put those hooks in. If you're using other belts, just enlarge those holes on the belt big enough to put the hooks in.

And.. hang it up.

3

I don't know for you, but I like my bags organized vertically as I felt that it saves more space.

4

See. Hang it behind your door and you're really to go anytime.

InfoDay @ ITB

Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) will be organizing an ITB Information Day (InfoDay@ITB) on Saturday, 7th of March 2009 at the University’s campus in Kg Tungku. The InfoDay@ITB is open to the public and prospective students from 9 am to 4 pm. The deadline for applying to the University’s degree programmes has been extended to the 15th of March 2009 due to changes in the programme structure.

The activities during that day are:

  • Personal consultation with ITB academics on the range of the 4-year degree programmes available at ITB with explanation on ITB definition of ‘discovery year’.
  • Exhibition on few of ITB students’ hands-on final year projects physical displays.
  • University’s Engineering laboratories tour.
  • HECAS officers will also be available during the day whereby the prospective students can consult them regarding the registration process. They will also be able to register on the day as registration facilities will be provided

------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now, I'm thinking if I should go.

I'm lazy to drive all the way up to BSB when I can just slack at home.. But then, if I'm going, I can meet Bobby for lunch (it's been a week that I've not seen him!) and get some info for my "brother".

Sigh... you people are so lucky.
If only ITB offered degree programme during my time... smile_sniff

Anyways, I LOVE ITB!!!

CIS18 Rocks!

Save water please...

There's this one thing I hate seeing in the hostel...

I CANNOT TAHAN SEEING THOSE GIRLS LEAVING THE TAP RUNNING WHILE WASHING THEIR FACES OR BRUSHING THEIR TEETH OR DIDN'T CLOSE THE TAP TIGHT ENOUGH AND LEFT WATER LEAKING/RUNNING!

I always have the sudden impulse to stomp forward and tighten up those taps for them while they're checking their zits. Grrr!!!

smile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angrysmile_angry

I seriously hate those ignorant attitudes of people who don't give a damn about the environment, as if its none of their business because they still have plenty of water to waste, fresh air to breathe and friendly weather to complain about.

Hello? Still remember the drastic flood that happened merely two months ago? Does the word "Global Warming" or "Greenhouse effect" ring a bell to you?

Water conservation in the home...

1. Use your water meter to check for hidden water leaks
Read the house water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter does not read exactly the same, there is a leak.

2. Check your toilets for leaks
Put a little food colorings in your toilet tank. If, without flushing, the colour begins to appear in the bowl within 30 minutes, you have a leak that should be repaired immediately. Most replacement parts are inexpensive and easy to install.

3. Don't use the toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket
Every time you flush a cigarette butt, facial tissue or other small bit of trash, five to seven gallons of water is wasted.

4. Put plastic bottles or float booster in your toilet tank
To cut down on water waste, put an inch or two of sand or pebbles inside each of two plastic bottles to weigh them down. Fill the bottles with water, screw the lids on, and put them in your toilet tank, safely away from the operating mechanisms.

5. Insulate your water pipes.
It's easy and inexpensive to insulate your water pipes with pre-slit foam pipe insulation. You'll get hot water faster plus avoid wasting water while it heats up.

6. Install water-saving shower heads and low-flow faucet aerators
Inexpensive water-saving shower heads or restrictors are easy for the homeowner to install. Also, long, hot showers can use five to ten gallons every unneeded minute. Limit your showers to the time it takes to soap up, wash down and rinse off.

7. Take shorter showers.
One way to cut down on water use is to turn off the shower after soaping up, then turn it back on to rinse. A four-minute shower uses approximately 20 to 40 gallons of water.

8. Turn off the water after you wet your toothbrush
There is no need to keep the water running while brushing your teeth. Just wet your brush and fill a glass for mouth rinsing.

9. Rinse your razor in the sink
Fill the sink with a few inches of warm water. This will rinse your razor just as well as running water, with far less waste of water.

10. Check faucets and pipes for leaks
A small drip from a worn faucet washer can waste 20 gallons of water per day. Larger leaks can waste hundreds of gallons.

11. Use your dishwasher and clothes washer for only full loads
Automatic dishwashers and clothes washers should be fully loaded for optimum water conservation. Most makers of dishwashing soap recommend not pre-rinsing dishes which is a big water savings.
With clothes washers, avoid the permanent press cycle, which uses an added 20 liters (5 gallons) for the extra rinse. For partial loads, adjust water levels to match the size of the load. Replace old clothes washers.

12. Minimize use of kitchen sink garbage disposal units
In-sink 'garburators' require lots of water to operate properly, and also add considerably to the volume of solids in a septic tank which can lead to maintenance problems. Start a compost pile as an alternate method of disposing food waste.

13. When washing dishes by hand, don't leave the water running for  rinsing
If your have a double-basin, fill one with soapy water and one with rinse water. If you have a single-basin sink, gather washed dishes in a dish rack and rinse them with a spray device or a panful of hot water. If using a dishwasher, there is usually no need to pre-rinse the dishes.

14. Don't let the faucet run while you clean vegetables
Just rinse them in a stoppered sink or a pan of clean water.

15. Keep a bottle of drinking water in the fridge.
Running tap water to cool it off for drinking water is wasteful.

Water conservation in the yard and garden...

16. Water your lawn only when it needs it
A good way to see if your lawn needs watering is to step on the grass. If it springs back up when you move, it doesn't need water. If it stays flat, the lawn is ready for watering. Letting the grass grow taller (to 3") will also promote water retention in the soil.

17. Deep-soak your lawn
When watering the lawn, do it long enough for the moisture to soak down to the roots where it will do the most good. A light sprinkling can evaporate quickly and tends to encourage shallow root systems. Put an empty tuna can on your lawn - when it's full, you've watered about the right amount.

18. Water during the early parts of the day; avoid watering when it's windy
Early morning is generally better than dusk since it helps prevent the growth of fungus. Early watering, and late watering, also reduce water loss to evaporation. Watering early in the day is also the best defence against slugs and other garden pests. Try not to water when it's windy - wind can blow sprinklers off target and speed evaporation.

19. Add organic matter and use efficient watering systems for shrubs, flower beds and lawns
Adding organic material to your soil will help increase its absorption and water retention. Areas which are already planted can be 'top dressed' with compost or organic matter.

20. Plant drought-resistant shrubs and plants
Many beautiful shrubs and plants thrive with far less watering than other species. Replace herbaceous perennial borders with native plants. Native plants will use less water and be more resistant to local plant diseases. Plant slopes with plants that will retain water and help reduce runoff.

21. Put a layer of mulch around trees and plants
Mulch will slow evaporation of moisture while discouraging weed growth. Adding 2 - 4 inches of organic material such as compost or bark mulch will increase the ability of the soil to retain moisture.

22. Don't water the gutter
Position your sprinklers so water lands on the lawn or garden, not on paved areas. Also, avoid watering on windy days.

23. Don't run the hose while washing your car
Clean the car using a pail of soapy water. Use the hose only for rinsing - this simple practice can save as much as 150 gallons when washing a car. Use a spray nozzle when rinsing for more efficient use of water.

24. Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks

25. Check for leaks in pipes, hoses, faucets and couplings
Leaks outside the house may not seem as bad since they're not as visible. But they can be just as wasteful as leaks indoors. Check frequently to keep them drip-free. Use hose washers at spigots and hose connections to eliminate leaks.

Water conservation comes naturally when everyone in the family is aware of its importance, and parents take the time to teach children some of the simple water-saving methods around the home which can make a big difference.
