Seria Bazaar 08

Plug of the day:

So anyone of you joining the 1st Brunei Tasek Climbathon or going to Dine under the Stars
I'll be there though. *wink*

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I bet most of you peeps had thought that I had a blasting night last Saturday celebrating last weekend. Sadly, my life is never that happening as you all imagined. Most of my Saturdays and Sundays were spent either watching Astro-marathon, play lami with the gang or go BSB with them if any of them happened to have something to do there.

Last Saturday was different. I knew that there was a bazaar going on in Seria town and wanted to check it out so I asked Theen and SL to go with me..

(Read Liza's and Grinchandar's coverage)

How pathetic. I only have 2 friends to ask out on a Saturday night.
(FussyKelly was celebrating super advanced Mother's Day with her family)

Some more I was the one driving because one was lazy and the other one, didn't even bother to ask because I'm always the driver.

SL asked us to park the car at his house and walked to the town because its impossible to find parking at that time. Err... his place is just 10 mins walking distance from the town, mine is 15 - 20 mins. Just like walking from Nyonya Gadong to the Mall.

I can't remember when was the last time we walked together at night like that, perhaps in 1999. The good old "finished O'level and had nothing better to do days" and us like poklens hanging around aimlessly.

But it was fun. SL was shocked that one of the road sign's height is now up to his chest. He said that he used to langgar his head to the road sign and got extra careful. And I was like, "Ya lah ya lah... You taller liao lar. Want to take picture for memory or not?". Told you, I'm mean to my close friends.

We made the right choice. The parking lot beside the old-vacant-cinema was full of cars exhibiting their sound systems or funny blue lights... which I really don't understand.

Cool tongkat!

Don't laugh! Initially I thought that those wooden sticks are natives blowpipes (used for hunting with poisoned needles) and I was expecting the seller to say that cool answer too and I'll ask whether I can try it out. I was tad disappointed when he told me they're walking sticks.

I mean, so short... for babies kah?

Speaking of babies, look at this poor boy...

It was so hot and humid there I bet he just got tired after crying asking to go home. Lucky him, being able to fit in a carriage and no need to walk.

One of my secret wish is to have a shopping cart big enough to fit an adult, so that I can sit in it and ask Bobby to push me around. Then I just need to use my magic finger and point at the things I want to buy and he has to put it inside the cart. HAHHAHHHHHAHA!!!

This, baru call SHOPPING QUEEN!

Other than stalls selling miscellaneous stuffs, there were also performance for the shoppers to view. Like... New-style-Chinese-dance with a pop song?

48, both Theen and SL said seeing them feel like us when we're in form 5!
Sigh...

Anyway, I was asking one of the girl's relative

Me: 她不怕嗎?Eh, she doesn't feel scare meh?

Him: Ah?

Me: 她不怕丟臉嗎?Scared of embarrassment.

To be honest, I don't think I have the courage to dance in front of so many ma-lak-lou (cantonese- rough looking men) eyes big big looking at me and using their handphone taking pictures don't know for what purpose. And... I'm afraid of people saying, "Eh, I saw you dancing in front of Seria Plaza there leh that night.. Not bad wor. How much they pay you har?"

Ma Lak Lous

That's one of the reason why I choose to stay at home instead of going out on Sunday. Too many ma-lak-lous squatting along the walkway or sitting on the railings and looking at the girls, ladies and even obasans (age 10 to 60, regardless of size and appearance) "Tsk tsk tsk.. Moi moi, pigi mana moi?".

Obasan - Middle-aged women

If you still don't get what I mean, just go to the bus terminal in Bandar.

I like the colour balls!

This reminds me that I still have 3 kain haven't potong yet...

Spin and win!

Do you still remember SL won a POWER RANGER MOBILE PHONE from the same game last year in KB Bazaar?

You wouldn't believe how well the business was. There was a kid waiting for his turn to spin and the stall owner asked him to wait another 30 minutes!

Wah lao.. Buy donuts also don't take that much time lah.

And later the uncle convinced the kid to play the Ping Pong game instead.

And that kid won a packet of Lee Fah Mee noodles from the Ping Pong game! Paid $1 for a $0.70 noodles... well, I guess the thrill of throwing two balls cost only $0.30.

Still, better than that stupid Power Ranger Phone.

Then there was another game, Ring Toss.

Instead of using perpendicular sticks, the vendor used soft drink and fruit cocktail cans! And the prizes for this game is way better than the ping-pong game. I saw a foreign labourer won a packet of 3-in-1 instant coffee mix and some other groceries.

Now, $1 for those are more worthy.

Its just like gambling, either you lose your $1 or you win something. And from my point of view, the above men you saw in the photo were just hoping for luck to arrive so that they can buy cheap groceries, bring back home and show to their wives.

Wonder if they did check the expiry date label.

Went to CAM for our favorite snacks...

Roti Kertas!

Its crunchy like potato chips and less oily!
*yum*

We would order only 1, knowing its not enough and fight for it and later order another one if we still want for more.

Then when we're on our way back, we decided to check out the noisy car show..

Saw a lot of cars with high potential ear-deafing, heart-stopping sound systems and can I ask something?

Do all car lovers like BLUE? I see blue lights everywhere!
Headlights, room lamp, under the car, and even in the car boot!

Last year we have waterfall in the car boot...

..and this year,

TV!!!

Er, tell me what's the purpose of having a TV in your car boot?

Oh I know I know!

1. Putting up the sign "If you can see this TV, please kindly horn me to let me know my boot cover is not properly closed".

2. Asking your wife and all your kids squatting on the floor and watch Sponge Bob when there's a power failure. Lawa kali ah, everyone will thought that the whole family is cuckoo squatting and looking at a open car boot.

3. My TV is too precious to keep at home. I must bring it everywhere I go to keep it safe.

4. To entertain your friend when convoying. Text him/her while driving...
"Yo Wang, check out Mawi's new MV!"

.
.
.

Well, I don't know anything about cars except it can bring me around, has 4 wheels, feed on fuel, service every 5,000 km and pay insurance and road tax annually.

My eyes nearly popped out when James told me some car rims cost $6k!!! I kept on muttering, can buy a super PC already, can pay for my fees and enough to makan the whole year already, why on earth people wanna spend 4k on steels and irons used on a CAR!

Have money, go buy Tiffany or Tag Heuer lah!

Haih. Thank God the boyfriend knows nothing about cars.. He can't even differentiate CX7 and CRV! But ask him any scores of the premier league, managers, coaches and football players.. he can even write you an 10k words essay.

The music was so loud and there were kids.. or young adults shuffling!

Ya, shuffling in Seria car park next to the creepy Marina cinema...

For a moment I thought I was in Miri Balcony...

Thank You

Enlighten me please..

Finally I made up my mind and wanted to go dotcom after several chats with friends. Pingko said I should have done it donkey years ago and Kelly asked why should I, since famous blogger like Xiaxue is still using free blogspot.

So I asked Pingko to check for me how much does registering a domain cost and also check the availability of www.spiritualgarden.com.

Sadly, it was already taken. Even dotnet too.

I'm in a dilemma now. I ran out of idea for my domain name!

I thought www.nonnieking.com seems a little funny and lame. Or its only me who thinks that using my own name as my blog url sounds funny. I'm not Kennysia! Or Jeffooi.

But, its the cheapest.

Then I mentioned www.kisich.com.
SL later said, "Errr... won't later Foochows thought that its a website selling chicken wings?"

Thank you very much. You're such a nice friend.. not!

How about www.spiritual_garden.com?
But its such a hastle having to type ctrl + dash just to get the underscore.
And.. I have no idea why anything with spiritualgarden cost U$3,288.00!!!
Tak sanggup laaaaa.

I bet none of you like www.spiritualgardenblog.com or www.spiritualgardenonline.com or www.spiritualgardensite.com right?

Hence I'd put up the poll (point below) for you all to decide for me. Afterall, it is you friends and readers out there who has to remember the blog url. Choose something you think is easy to remember, or unique... or just because.

If you have other suggestions, just drop me a comment.

Thanks a lot.

p/s: Blogger finally have the schedule publishing post function! Now I don't have to worry if I'm going to be away. I'll just write up several posts in one go and relax.

DST Roadshow / Blog Of The Year

Never in my life I had received an invitation that is not address to the location of my house, or my working place but the name of BLOG!

Thank you DST Simpur.

Sigh, I'm easily impressed if you have not noticed.

It was held in Jerudong Park Amphitheatre and the dress code was.... Smart Casual. Took me quite some time to figure what to wear actually, my baju are either too casual or prom-ish wedding dinner cocktail dresses.

In the end I settle it with a sleeveless shirt and jeans, since its going to be hot and humid.

Of course Bobby tagged along since most of my friends work on Friday and my colleagues couldn't be bother to come over to support me. SMSes kept flooding in asking me for the results and demanded that I should informed them right after the announcement.

Maciam (fussy or demanding) lah my kawans...
(Don't pay for my Easi credits pun dare to ask so much...)

Lucky I still have my boyfriend to keep me company through out the whole day, WITHOUT COMPLAINING! Definitely a keeper. Tell me how many guys can tahan their mothers, girlfriends, wives or daughters shopping for hours and carry their shopping bags without muttering? I have to thank Mama Lim and Cheh-Cheh Lim for the training.

The top 6 finalists were asked to go on stage and were interviewed by Jenny live on air in Kristal. I was asked for my predictions of the Top 2 and I said "Rano and Kurapak", because they campaigned really hard, spent money in printing flyers and banners and when I was asked what did I do for my very own campaign... I just answered in a low tone...

"Er.... I blogged more?"

A lot of my friends asked me if I felt nervous but honestly, I don't. There's basically nothing we can do once the poll is closed but wait for the day. Furthermore, "No Expectation, No Disappointment.", and I got bombed by a lot of people answering them that.

They all asked me to have some confidence but, hello... look at my competitors! They're famous bloggers who had started blogging since I was still in my diapers.

Okay, I exaggerated.

Still, conclusion was... No way I'm going to win this. I'll consider myself as super lucky and blessed if I can get in to the top 3, meaning I'm satisfied with the 2nd runner up place already.

I told kor-kor Reeds that I was there for fill in the "quota" and he said he's there to take his "Best Photo Blog" trophy and will leave immediately it since he has no business after that. And we'll sit together to watch others going up stage.

Hey, we're being humble, not lack of confidence okay.
Hahhahahhahaaa.

The Stage

The Crowd

Miss Maurina, so fair and glam. She never failed to surprise me with the colours of her eye shadows. Mau, give me make-up tuition can?

Finally, the prize presentation begun!

I was the first to be called on stage because "Personal Blog" was the first category for public voting.

Big mistake.

(Photo taken by Bobby.. See, where got people take photos of BUTT one?)

Couldn't stop laughing..

I was so blur that I didn't know which stairs to walk up, where to go and what to do! Damn embarrassing okay.

You know what I did? I walked up to Jenny, the host for the event and she showed me that I was supposed to get my trophy from the Simpur manager. I didn't even paused and let the shutterbugs took photo of me receiving the trophy!

(Source from Happy Candid)

No, it wasn't stage fright. It was me being blur and clueless as always. I was laughing at my own stupidity and I bet I scared him (the trophy presenter) off too. He must had thought how come siao-chabor (crazy woman) also can win one...

ARGHHHHHHHHHH...

Taken by Bobby again.
Damn far that I need to use telescope to see

Only when Jenny called for BruneiFishing to come on stage to collect his trophy baru I know how the person behind the blog looks like. Honestly, I was expecting someone very dark (too much of sun exposure) and very big in size (sit too long hence the bulging tummy) but he was nothing like that.

Must be Angel's sun screen protection doing the job.
SPF50+++

Crap! I forgot to ask for his name!
Aiyaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....

Far Far Far Away shots by Bobby again..

You want closer shot? Bah, wish granted
See, either its too far away.. or super blur.
Kanasai one

(Source from Happy Candid)
Note the difference

Lucky there's quite a number of shutterbugs taking photos that time so I can just curi from their blogs. If not I'm going to bite off Bobby's hand! Just kidding lah.

And the excuse Bobby gave was,

"Very far bah bi... And when I walked near to the stage so many people blocking..."

Duh... Push them away lah, they're using tokong (ganas) cameras (with kiasu lens) that I'm pretty sure even if their hand jerks still the pictures will turn out great one. LOL!

Eh, you noticed something?
All those guys who were blocking were either from BruneiForever or Kurapak's crew.
New MIB, Men-In-Black.

Finally, BLOG OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCEMENT TIME!!!

I was still relaxing and keeping an eye on Bobby asking him to take photos (of me on stage, which you can see.. turn out really sucky) when Jenny mentioned that I was the 2nd runner up for Blog of The Year having 9% of the total votes.

I thought I was just going to be part of the wallpaper, I frowned and gave an awkward smile because I wasn't prepared for it. Until I noticed that everyone was looking at me, then I started laughing like orang gila again...

The stupid thing was, it was already my second time getting my prize and yet I walked up to Jenny instead of getting my goodies bag from the manager!

Haiyoo!!

Dear Simpur,

Is it possible to give me some rehearsals or instructions first so that I won't make a fool out of myself again?

Regards,
The clueless blogger who doesn't have any idea what's going on most of the time.

Anyway, I was quite overwhelmed by the result.

1) Kurapak 46%
2) Ranoadidas 30%
3) Spiritual Garden 9%
4) Arab-families 5%
5) Brunei Fishing 4%, Anak Brunei 4%

.. even though none of my predictions for the top 3 came true.

You know there were times that kids mutter numbers and the parents quickly go buy 4D and then kana first prize that kind of thing.... It had never happened to me.

Even the fortune teller told me that I shall not gamble because I have no side luck. The only way for me to get wealthy is by my own hard work, sweat and blood. Never 4D, Toto, Big 2 and even lucky draw!

(Uncle Jan always said that I was so tough that I tend to push my luck away..... Apalah...)

Angel (Mrs Brunei Fishing) and I

What made my day (other than winning 2nd runner up for BOTY) was getting to meet my readers! I know I whined a lot about not getting recognized by people but finally! Yesterday I had a couple of readers coming up to me telling me that they read and love my blog!

And what Angel whispered to me really got me floating on cloud 9. Hhahahaa!
Mr. BF (Brunei Fishing), sorry ah.. it's going to be a secret among your wife and I.

*floating on Atul's white fluffy mamatus cloud after kicking her away*

Oh oh!

Do you still remember the promise Alin made to me if he won BOTY?

(BOTY - Blog Of The Year)

Hehhhehhheee. He's going to let me pluck his dan!!! Muahahahhahahaaa!!!

Good that the moment was captured by kor-kor Reeda.

I have a confession.
I have a fetish for facial hair. Hahhahahaa.

Sorry Qilah. I hurt your hubby.

Group Pic
L-R: AnakBrunei, Alin, Qilah, Nonnie, Maurina and the owner of nadabaju.

Err... yeah, you guess right. The lousy photo above was taken by none other than Bobby.
Sigh.

Any secondhand "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Digital Photography" for sale?

Cam-whoring in the car

Belum lah.
That's not the end of this post yet.

After the roadshow, we went to ICC to check out the Consumer Fair and Rano was there too.

If there's an award for "Most Hardworking Blogger", he's definitely going to get it!

I have no idea from where he get all the time and energy to cover so many events and weddings, and also organizing this BCG!

Red Bull overdose kali?

On side note:

Bobby was so captivated by this booth..

HD Plasma TV with his favorite game console

Me: You know what, I will not let you have this in our house next time because you won't be paying attention to me.

Bobby: ....

Me: Oi!!!

Bobby: Huh? What?

Me: See! This is what I am talking about!

Now you know...

I know it sounds silly but, having happy thought such as thinking "what's for breakfast later?" while I drive to work is how I kick start my day. (Does it explain to you why I'm tad overweight now?) I'm a morning person. Prefer dawn rather than sun set because it feels like a brand new start with full of surprises ahead.

And I have super best colleagues. Colleagues who can cook so well and colleagues who can't cook but are generous enough to belanja.

I had stop buying food from the canteen because my mum is now preparing breakfast for me to bring to school... (like a school kid) knowing that I'm saving. And on random days, my colleagues will suddenly brought along large food containers and made us all starve like hungry ghost waiting for the dapur makciks to bring the plates and spoons.

Today, was just too exaggerating...

Just you look at the amount of food!!!

Maybe because it was just right after pay-day, I have different colleagues bringing different foods to school today. Not janji one okay!

As you can see, we had:

  • Laksa
  • Begedil
  • Sour mango?
  • Kuihs and Cakes

and...

Why 4 bags? Because one colleague bought two.. and the other one bought another two without knowing what will happen today...

Kweng Kweng Kweng!

And today one of my beeyoches bought us packet food too.
(Us, which means only for certain people..)

So summing up, today I had...

Gila or not you say!

I only manage to finish the laksa, then half of mum's porridge and heat up the fried noodle justnow for lunch.

Now you know... why most some teachers tend to be slightly overweight.
I've heard even kua-chiong (lebih) stories for some other schools. Everyday "party" - makan like that in staffroom.

I heart my school, and my colleagues.
